State of the collection...

A transitional Cal.861 Speedy is absent from this group photo, but isn't far away...

  1. Good to see that you picked up a Dynamic - I've got a later iteration and I'm very fond of it. You've accumulated a lovely collection. Now you just need a nice piepan Connie as well...

  2. Thanks, Journeyman, I'm happy with the progress - still a few pieces to add though. The Dynamic has an interesting story - I bought it four years ago with a broken stem, looking a little dirty, and sent it off to Omega to be fixed. 18 months and $600 later it came back from Switzerland in near perfect condition - looks almost like it is a reissue it's so clean.
A piepan would be nice, but I have a GP dress watch from the 50's that I'd have to sell first. My main priorities at the moment are a Ploprof 600, Seamaster 200 SHOM and a Flightmaster. It aint likely to happen though...

  3. Dear Ethan, PloProfs were a great deal a decade or more ago, when they could be had for affordable prices. But nowadays, they seem to sell for at least US$6-7000 and the recent Omega reissue costs more than $8000, from memory. Whilst it is undoubtedly an iconic watch, I just cannot justify that amount of money. Did I ever mention that a schoolfriend of mine was given a PloProf by his absentee father when he and I were at high school? He used to wear it every day, and he had it on a distinctive, red NATO strap (which co-ordinated with the high-visibility bezel button). One day he came to school without it and when I asked him why he wasn't wearing it, he said that he'd been chopping wood the previous afternoon whilst wearing the watch, and that the hands had fallen off! I sometimes wonder what he did with it... Of course, we had no idea that it was such a great watch, nor that it was worth a couple of thousand dollars even back then.
